Description

Supervises the SCHS Cheerleading Program to assure that the sport is successful in meeting the needs of the athlete, the school, and the community.

Will be an ambassador for Spencer County Public Schools and commit to offering excellent customer service to students, parents, and staff. 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Has full responsibility for the over-all supervision of the Cheerleading program. 
  • Is in charge of assignments and duties of assistant coaches within the program.
  • Responsible for keeping practice periods for the Cheerleading program within the confines of the time specified by the Athletic Director; and is to keep the Director informed of practice schedules during any holiday period.
  • Responsible for the general upkeep and protection of equipment. Directly responsible for a complete inventory of the equipment.
  • Responsible for drafting and submitting a budget for the Cheerleading program when requested by the Principal or Athletic Director.
  • Has the main responsibility for striving to build good sportsmanship and developing good public relations in the school and community.
  • Maintains information for athletes, pertaining to insurance, permission forms, KHSAA guidelines, athletic guidebooks and physical forms.
  • Responsible for assuring that the assistant coaches know the rules of the KHSAA and at all times abide by them.
  • Responsible to ensure that each athlete trying out for a squad has had a physical exam upon making the squad the current school year, and that they have adequate insurance coverage as specified by the KHSSA and the local policy.
  • Checks athlete eligible in compliance with KHSAA and local guidelines and reports concerns to the Principal and Athletic Director.
  • Responsible for the actions and conduct of the team.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all participants have transportation home when returning from road trips in late evening hours.
  • Makes recommendations for letter awards and is responsible for clarification of the award policy to athletes.
  • Responsible for explaining all policies, including the Athletic Code, to all members of the team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or the Athletic Director.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: 

  • Promote sports in the schools and community.
    • Plan the assigned athletic program.
    • Organize and supervise practices.
    • Teach individual fundamental skills, team play, team strategy and rules and regulations of the game.
    • Teach the elements of good sportsmanship and self-control that display professionalism.
    • Respect the integrity and judgment of sports officials.
    • Check eligibility of participants, including insurance coverage and parent consent.
    • Provide students a proper role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude and
    general guidance.
    • Conduct learning experiences, with small groups of student athletes.
    • Recommend the purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate for the health,
    safety and welfare of student athletes.
    • Develop good rapport and lines of communication with individuals and groups to include, but
    not limited to, players, parents, school personnel, officials, media representatives, etc.
    • Assist coaches on one or more sports
    • Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth.
    • Demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance.
  • Maintain appropriate professional appearance.
    • Adhere to the appropriate code of ethics.
  • Fundamentals of various sports.
    • Health and safety regulations.
    • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
    • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
    • Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

KY Teacher Certification preferred:  High school diploma or GED 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.
• Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
• Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching

• Requires indoor and/or outdoor activity.
• Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull weights, up to 50 pounds
