Description

The Assistant Superintendent provides executive leadership in planning, implementing,

and evaluating both academic performance and student support services. This role

serves as a primary member of the Superintendent’s Administrative Team and assumes

the Superintendent's responsibilities in their absence. The successful candidate will be

an ambassador for the district, committed to high expectations for teaching, learning,

and customer service for all students, parents, and staff.

 

Qualifications

 

Certification: Kentucky Superintendent Certification and Director of Pupil Personnel

(DPP) certification.

 

Experience: Proven leadership experience in school and/or district settings.

Knowledge: Deep understanding of curriculum, assessment, and instruction;

knowledge of District/school finance and operation, and Kentucky laws related to

enrollment and truancy is preferred.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Academic Leadership & Instructional Support
  • Curriculum & Instruction: Oversee the development of a rigorous, intentional

curriculum aligned to state/local standards and the district vision. Coordinate

instructional programs that use research-based practices to engage all students.

  • Assessment & Data: Direct an assessment system using multiple strategies to

monitor student needs and modify instruction. Create systems for routine data

analysis to drive results-based decisions at the district and building levels.

  • Professional Growth: Direct a collaborative certified personnel evaluation

process. Assist principals in creating job-embedded professional development

programs based on the needs of staff and students.

  • Leadership Development: Lead the District Instructional Leadership Team to

develop teacher leaders and build leadership capacity at all levels.

  1. Student Supports & Pupil Personnel
  • Attendance & Enrollment: Administer the district’s enrollment, registration, and

census functions. Enforce Kentucky laws regarding compulsory attendance and

truancy.

  • Intervention & Support: Work with principals, parents, and community agencies

to implement research-based interventions to improve attendance and provide

incentive programs.

 

  • Ancillary Services: Coordinate and facilitate essential training and annual

evaluations for Food Service and Transportation personnel.

  1. Administrative & District Operations
  • Policy & Planning: Regularly review policies and programs to ensure they align

with the district’s commitment to organizing around students. Direct the

continuous school and district improvement planning process.

  • Resource Management: Act as the Model Procurement Administrator for the

district. Prepare bid specifications, tabulate bids, and recommend actions to the

Superintendent.

  • Personnel Alignment: Ensure recruitment, selection, and induction processes

align with district beliefs and our district’s Strategic Plan.

  • Customer Service: Routinely collect feedback from the community, parents, and

students to ensure excellent service.

  1. Supervision & Program Oversight

The Assistant Superintendent supervises personnel and programs, including, but not

limited to:

  • Academic Programs: Assessment, Curriculum, Instruction, Exceptional Child

Education, Gifted and Talented, English Language Learners, and Instructional

Resources.

  • Federal & Categorical Programs: Title I (including Migrant), Title II (Teacher

Quality/Technology), Title III (LEP), Title IV (Safe & Drug-Free), and Title V.

  • Student Services: Extended School Services (ESS), Home/Hospital Instruction,

Hillview Academy assignments, and Adult Education.

  • Operations: Food Service and Transportation reviews/reporting, and Safe

Schools.

  • Facilities and Maintenance

  • Requires bending, squatting, reaching, and the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull weights up to 30 pounds.
